Ask your council to sign the union pledge

From street cleaning and waste collection to youth work, social care, school support and much more besides, local government workers provide services we all rely on and which make our lives better.

At a time when local authorities are facing devastating and unnecessary cuts from the Tory-led government, Unite calls on councils to take positive steps to stand with their employees and pledge to engage and work together with trade unions to protect jobs and vital public services.

To that end, we have a draft pledge for council leaders to adopt alongside the trade union representatives in your council.

What you can do:

  • Local government members - download the draft pledge (below), discuss it in your workplace union and arrange to meet your councillors to get the pledge adopted by the council. Get in touch if you need support at any stage.
  • Councillors - download the draft pledge (below), speak to the leader of your council and arrange a meeting with the council's trade unions to finalise the pledge and sign up. For information contact tom.warnett@unitetheunion.org.
