Demanding justice for George Floyd

“Unite stands in solidarity with all those protesting in response to the senseless murder of George Floyd, and the appalling racism both here and across the world … Unite members stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in America, who feel anger, frustration and hurt over the events of recent days.” – Unite general secretary Len McCluskey

Message from the USW, Unite's sister unionUSWunity

What happened to George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and so many unarmed black people is unacceptable. We cannot be silent because we feel uncomfortable.

They deserve justice - so join us and take action at: usw.org/justice.

Racism is a labour issue because it is a workplace issue. It is a community issue, and we are the community. We must fight for reforms in policing and to address issues of racial and economic inequality because it is the right thing to do. We reject violence and destroying property - these are disgraceful acts that only play into the hands of those who have oppressed workers of colour for generations and detract from the peaceful, passionate protesters who are rightly bringing issues of racism to the forefront.

And we will not let anything or anyone distract us from the worthy and righteous call for justice.

In solidarity,
Roxanne Brown, USW International vice president at large
