Commentating on suggestions that Unite has totally rejected EasyJet’s plans to contend with the coronavirus crisis Unite national officer Oliver Richardson said:

“Unite is very much still in talks with EasyJet and it is totally untrue to suggest the union has rejected all the company’s proposals.

“Peter Bellew (EasyJet chief operating officer) is deliberately misleading his investors and his employees with such statements.

“At this time when people want to see businesses and unions pulling together this is an extremely unhelpful approach to take.

"Unite did not and would not indicate that compulsory redundancies are a preferable alternative to the current proposed collective agreement on the table. Unite has asked the company to explore a range of cost saving options including the possibility of offering voluntary redundancies."
