Unite secures recognition at Peter Pan Nursery and calls off strike action
- Thursday 27 June 2019
Unite the union has secured a recognition deal with the Peter Pan Nursery based in Wrexham, North Wales.
Following a campaign, which has taken over 22 months, the Nursery’s owner SHAP Ltd has finally signed an agreement which recognises Unite as the sole union for the purposes of collective bargaining. This means that Unite can now formally negotiate on behalf of its members in relation to terms and conditions of employment.
Strike action scheduled for 2, 3 and 4 July has now been cancelled.
Unite regional officer Jo Goodchild said; “Unite is delighted that we have finally secured trade union recognition for our members working at Peter Pan Nursery. It has taken a long time, but this victory is a testament to our members who have stuck by the union during this prolonged campaign.
“The staff at Peter Pan Nursery are very dedicated to their jobs and work extremely hard. This agreement with their employer will now give them the added security that Unite will be able to support them to its full extent.
“Our members are relieved that the strike action has been cancelled. They never wanted to go down the route of industrial action but felt that they were left with no other choice. I am hopeful that Unite will now be able to build a constructive working relationship with SHAP Ltd that will benefit all parties.”
