Thomas Cook collapse, never again

Lax UK laws, bad boardroom behaviour and government indifference have seen yet another high street name close its doors. With the collapse of Thomas Cook, 9,000 workers lost their jobs overnight. Thousands of holiday makers have had their trip ruined or lost their hard-saved cash. This should never again be allowed to happen.

Please do the following today, and ask your friends and family to do the same:

✈️ Sign the petition to get these workers paid the money they are owed
✈️ Write to your MP and ask them to back law changes that would stop these collapses, use the form below ⬇
✈️ If you can, please help support the workers' hardship fund, donate a little or a lot to the crowdfunder

Unite is fighting to win back wages the workers are owed. Unite is working hard to make sure all workers left stranded by the company's failure are brought home. And Unite is holding mass meetings and drop-in sessions around the country to provide all Thomas Cook workers with the best legal advice the union can provide so that the workers are paid what they are owed, can receive their redundancy pay and make a legal claim for a protective award, due to Thomas Cook’s failure to consult them before making them redundant.

Unite is also helping to provide CV writing advice and working with other airlines to provide a job matching service.

Unite is doing everything it can to get justice for the Thomas Cook workforce.

But we are also saying, never again. Time and again, working people have paid a dreadful price for boardroom greed and mismanagement. From Patisserie Valerie to Carillion, Britain's businesses have failed the people of this country.

Sadly, our government has failed the workforce and holidaymakers too. While great distress has been caused to those in the UK, in Germany, Scandinavia and Spain Thomas Cook workers are still at work today and passenger travel is safe. That is because the German government used public money to keep that business operating while our government chose to spend hundreds of millions of UK taxpayers' money to close it down.

That is why alongside fighting for this workforce we are also fighting for the law changes that will ensure that our businesses behave better.

This will need a government prepared to take action. It will need our laws to change. We need your help to make this happen.

#ThomasCookCollapse

The workers who should have been paid today have received nothing and have to still somehow pay mortgages, rent, bills and food. While other European countries acted to preserve airlines, the UK government allowed the entire company to crash.” #PayUpNow
