Free schools meals are a sticking plaster
Marcus Rashford has quite rightly said that providing free school meals in school holidays is a sticking plaster and we need longer term solutions to address childhood poverty.
Unite couldn’t agree more and is calling for higher wages and for improvements to Universal Credit such as getting rid of the five week wait to receive benefits which causes untold hardship, ending benefit sanctions where claimants get punished for not looking for jobs, and to make the temporary £20 update to Universal Credit permanent and paid to all benefit claimants.
