Please help Southampton city council workers

No Con cuts for our city logoSouthampton city council strike continues

Workers across the entire council have been taking industrial action since May in protest at their employer’s imposition of pay cuts and poorer contracts, hitting some 4,300 workers. Since then the unions have uncovered plans by Southampton city council to slash the council's workforce by some 1,400 posts devastating services and support to the city's most vulnerable people.

While Unite continues to seek a negotiated settlement with the council's Conservative leadership, further industrial action continues across the city. The ongoing action involves key workers in refuse and street cleansing, parking enforcement officers and transport services.  Unite is also taking legal action against Southampton city council for its failure to consult with unions and their imposition of the changes to staff contracts of employment which have resulted in significant pay cuts and the removal of other benefits.

Workers reluctantly signed up to the new imposed contracts to avoid dismissal on 11 July, while continuing targeted industrial action. Unite and Unison members are taking industrial action in an attempt to get their employer to talk to them about a fairer way forward.

Please help them defend their jobs. Your contributions, however small, can help:
