Unite in CSC

IT charter logoUnite is the largest union in the UK and second largest in Ireland and has a specialist “IT and Communications” sector for people working for companies such as CSC.

Unite is active in all the big IT companies - IBM, HP/EDS, Fujitsu, Capgemini, TCS, Accenture, AtosOrigin, Unisys, Steria and Getronics to name a few.

Unite is by far the biggest union in CSC, and the only union to organise on a national basis, rather than being restricted to certain customer accounts and sites. We have reps from Aldershot to Edinburgh.

Supporting you
Unite has a network of workplace reps and contacts across many of the major sites. To contact a rep in CSC please send an email to unite.csc@goooglemail.com or to cwalker22@csc.com   Reps help members with advice, guidance and individual representation, as well as leading the way in campaigning and dealing with the company at a collective level.

Unite is recognised by the company as the sole trade union that represents members on a national basis and has a Partnership Agreement with CSC to encourage good industrial relations. In the agreement the company “respects and welcomes the right of its employees to elect to join a trade union.” Union recognition gives employees extra rights (whether they are union members or not). Union membership helps you exercise your rights.

Union Successes
Unite campaigns in CSC have had real successes, such as:

  • protecting jobs in redundancy situations large and small
  • securing agreements to protect and improve terms and conditions (e.g. pay, benefits, redundancy terms, standby payments) in areas where we have recognition for collective bargaining
  • winning improvements to the bonus buyout scheme for those below level of Leader contribution group
  • helping hundreds of members resolve individual issues
  • ensuring staff are treated fairly at times of TUPE transfer
Unite produces newsletters to keep members informed about what is going on in the company, and to campaign around issues such as pay, pensions and job security.

The company has a UK Employee Forum (UKEF) elected by all employees (not just union members). Many of the UKEF reps are also Unite members, which allows Unite to help make the forum as effective as possible, while also providing an additional channel for issues raised by employees with Unite reps to be taken up with senior management.

Growing our membership – Extending our influence
Unite is already recognised for collective bargaining in several parts of the company and this allows bargaining over aspects of reward and recognition in those areas.

Our long-term aim is to extend our influence in all areas of the company, and this will rely on growing our membership in CSC.

Get in touch - Get involved
If you’re not already a Unite member, please join.  If you join online, please also let unite.csc@goooglemail.com know so that you can be on the lists held locally by CSC workplace reps straight away to keep you in touch with the latest news and views.

If you’re already a member – why not get more involved or simply ask a colleague to join?

Do you have an issue you think we should be campaigning on or helping you with?  Do you have an idea to reach and involve more people or to help us grow and become more effective? Do you want to find out how to help?  If the answer to any of these questions is yes then please contact us at unite.csc@goooglemail.com or cwalker22@csc.com to find out how to help or get help when you need it. The more people who are involved with our efforts the more effective we will be.
