Maggie Fisher (Chair of Health Visitor
Forum)
Maggie was elected Chair of Unite/CPHVA Health
Visitor’s Forum in March 2009 when Christine Bidmead retired.
Maggie is a Health Visitor Forum member representing the South
Eastern Region and is passionate about health visiting. Maggie
feels very privileged to be working nationally to promote health
visiting and safeguard standards in health visiting practice, to
ensure the public are protected and receive a quality service that
is safe, effective and efficient.
Maggie has worked as a health visitor for
twenty seven years both in London and Hampshire and has spent 34
years working in the NHS. She has recently taken up a new post
funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families working
as a health visitor parent supporter with Netmums as part of their
Parent Know How Project. The other part of this role involved
working as a Lead Local Coordiator covering the South of England
working with PCTs, Local Authorities’ and professional staff to
explore alternative ways of providing parental support alongside
statutory services.
Maggie was seconded to work part time as a
Professional Officer at Unite/CPHVA from April 07- December 2008
which was a rich and rewarding professional experience. Whilst
working for Unite/CPHVA Maggie wrote book on Skill Mix in Health
Visiting and Community Nursing Teams which was published in October
2009. Maggie is also co-chair of the Unite/CPHVA Interest and
Development Group for Parenting and Family Support.
Maggie also co-wrote a chapter on approaches
to parenting with Professor Diane Debell in a book exploring
“Public Health Practice and the School-Age Population” which was
published in 2007 and is about to be reprinted again.
