Local Practice Examples: Early help for families to prevent the
neglect of children
C4EO has been commissioned by the Children’s
Improvement Board (CIB) to identify innovative examples of local
practice in relation to services that provide early help to
vulnerable children and families, in order to reduce the incidences
of neglect and abuse.
By collecting and sharing proven local
practice, they are seeking to ensure that directors and managers in
local authorities, along with their partners, have up-to-date,
accurate evidence of robust local practice around early help.
Although presumably aimed at social
workers, it is important that local authorities realise the extent
to which health services are involved in early help, so that
services are properly commissioned without duplication.

Healthy meals for young
children
Nurseries, childminders and other providers of early years
services now have extra support on providing healthy meals for
young children and to help reduce obesity in under-fives, thanks to
new national, voluntary guidelines launched today.
For the first time, childcare providers have a nationally-recognised
source of information about the foods they should offer young
children, portion sizes, sample menus and recipes, advice on
tackling fussy eating and involving children in food and cooking
activities.

CWDC has launched a microsite for
Integrated Working
http://www.cwdcouncil.org.uk/alltogetherbetter
The new site explains the principles of Integrated Working and
provides a range of FREE tools and guidance, including:
- Common assessment framework - a process that enables
practitioners and volunteers to identify each child's needs, and
who is best placed to deliver support and develop a tailored action
plan to meet those needs.
- Guidance for the lead professional / practitioner - the person
who co-ordinates all activity and becomes a single point of contact
for everyone involved, especially the child or young person.
- Guidance on information sharing - practical advice and guidance
on appropriate ways to share information.
- Induction Workbook and training materials to introduce
practitioners and volunteers to integrated working.
