Get organised now!
Unions cannot remove uncertainty in an uncertain world - but
unionised workers have the best opportunity of defending
themselves.
A voice at work
In today’s busy complex world it’s sometimes hard to get your
voice heard. On your own, you’re pretty powerless. Even in the best
run workplace, it’s clear where the power lies. But when you join
with others, your voice gets louder. People have to listen. And
that’s what unions are all about. People joining and acting
together to make their views and interests count.
Your very own expert
Unions are experts in today’s complex world of work. Things can
go wrong in any workplace – unfair discipline, discrimination,
company takeover/sale, bullying, redundancies, a pensions issue.
Union members have access to professional advice and
representation.
Better together?
The new owner(s) of RBI will want to make changes sooner or
later and these changes could affect you and your family. If
you leave it until the last minute you will have no say
- especially if the changes are controversial cost saving
measures.
There is another way.
If you act now you can ensure that you have a say in future
decisions. Every RBI employee is entitled to join the union. If
enough people join you have the legal right to 'union recognition',
sometimes called 'collective bargaining'. This would give you
and your chosen representatives, among other
things, a:
- legal right to be informed and consulted over changes that
could impact your employment.
- legal right to be consulted over collective redundancies.
- legal right to be consulted over a company transfers
(sale).
- legal right to annual pay and conditions (overtime, hours etc)
negotiations.
- legal right to elect your health and safety
representative(s).
- legal right to elect your union learning
representative(s).
If you don’t exercise your rights now the company or new
owner(s) could get it wrong!
Don’t wait for everyone else to join as they are probably
waiting for you. Why not get in touch with your local Unite
Organiser today. Your local organiser can talk you through the
benefits and services offered to you as an individual and also help
you to get you and your work colleagues organised.
