Unite seeks to avoid big job losses at RR
Donnelley
Wednesday, 1st August 2007
Unite the UK's largest trade union has said it
will seek to avoid any job losses at print company RR Donnelley's
Flaxby Moor site, near York.
Donnelley's the worlds largest printer issued
a statement to announce restructuring, which included a proposal to
cut over 100 jobs at the plant.
Unite (Amicus section) National Officer, Steve
Sibbald, said:
"We will seek to avoid any job losses
at all and certainly any compulsory redundancies.
"We don't know what the detailed
reasons are for the job losses. The company has retained a 15-year
contract to print Yellow Pages directories and we still
need some logic as to why they are proposing 110 redundancies at
Flaxby Moor when they have got these contracts.
"Donnelley must enter into meaningful
negotiations with us over ways and means of avoiding job
losses.”
The 90-day consultation period has now begun
and the union will seek urgent meetings with the management to
avoid any compulsory redundancies.
