Unite comment on Rio Tinto’s bid for Alcan

“Alcan Packaging employs hundreds
of our members across two plants in the UK, most of whom work in
that part of Alcan that Rio Tinto are looking to off-load. The
workers are clearly concerned for their livelihood and how
developments are going to affect them and their
families.
“Unite are now seeking urgent
meetings with the management of both companies. We will
be pressing them for assurances
to
honourexisting agreements and
recognition arrangements and retain current terms and conditions of
employment in any possible sale or takeover.”
