Unite and St. Regis, Kemsley paper mill sign new learning
agreement
5 February 2009
Unite, the UK’s biggest print and paper making
union, and St. Regis paper mill in Kent have signed an agreement to
retrain those affected by redundancy and offer them help and
support in finding new jobs.
Unite learning reps (ULRs), Gary Seager and
Michelle King have been running a learning project at the site for
the past 6 years, however with the recent recession and subsequent
loss of jobs, the project has been taken to a new level with
members able to gain skills for life and gain qualifications.
Unite National Sector Skills Co-ordinator,
Bernard Rutter, said: “The company has been providing support and
funding to re-train those affected by redundancy. We are pleased
that the ULRs are getting positive feedback from staff on the
quality of the advice given. Michelle King did a good job in
helping achieve this important agreement.”
Lee Glover, St.Regis manager, added: “I was
very pleased to sign this agreement. Staff here are very happy to
meet Unite learning officials and attend courses on site.”
