Unions sign global working scheme with Elanders

5 February 2009

Unite, the UK’s biggest print and publishing union, along with delegates from German, US, Polish and Brazilian unions have signed a global agreement which guarantees international employment standards at work setting new standards for working conditions and providing union rights in the printing industry.

The agreement was the result of coordinated action by Unite and various international unions representing Elanders employees around the globe. UNI Graphical organised the series of meetings and consultations between the company and the unions to make sure that fundamental rights of employees are respected.

Unite National Officer, Ann Field, said: “With local presence in eleven countries on four continents, this deal builds a solid base for organising in global media and printing companies worldwide.

“This global agreement with Elanders is another step in the process of building agreements with multinational business worldwide and is one of the keys to the organising success in countries like the United States.

“Elanders has committed to a positive attitude towards organising by unions and providing free access to workers.
