Goss halves workforce at its Preston
factory
Wednesday 25th May 2006
Printing machine manufacturer Goss International is to
shed more than half its workforce at the Preston
base.
Goss first confirmed significant job losses and then announced
that the number of redundancies was not as high as the "worst-case
scenario".
Amicus Assistant General Secretary, Tony Burke, said:
"Goss has said 179 of its 346 staff would be made
redundant, leaving 159 staff at the Lancashire plant. Amicus will
be doing all it can to assist our members at the plant and save as
many jobs as is possible."
Of the 179 jobs, 115 are in manufacturing. Amicus Regional
Official Terry Thompson said it aimed to save 15 of those through
kit maintenance roles. A 12-week consultation period began
yesterday.
Goss has said the Preston site would focus on retail,
distribution and project management. It would also handle sales and
support for kit such as the Goss Flexible Printing System and
Colorliner presses. Manufacturing would switch from Preston to
mainland Europe or the US.
