Amicus wins over £620,000 for workers in TUPE transfer
row
Thursday, 29th June 2006
18 Amicus members have been awarded over £620,000
following a legal case when a row over who was responsible for
paying their redundancy entitlements ensued between two print
companies.
Amicus brought the case when Adare Pressicion and Williams Lea
disagreed as to who was responsible for the payments.
Williams Lea won the contract to print work for the Abbey
National Building Society from Adare Pressicion, who had taken over
the print department of Abbey National.
As neither company would accept liability, Amicus fought the
case at an Employment Tribunal who ruled that Adare Pressicion was
responsible for redundancy pay, notice pay and owed wages.
Commenting on the settlement Amicus Assistant General
Secretary Tony Burke said:
"It took almost two years to get a decision. During
that time our members faced hardship, not knowing when they were
going to get their entitlements.
"The successful outcome shows the benefit of being in
a union. This was a legal minefield and it would have been
impossible for an individual to have brought the case. Plus there
has been no additional cost to our members in bringing the case. We
would like to thank Thompsons for their dedicated work in securing
a successful outcome."
