Amicus angered by sudden closure of packaging company

Monday 22nd May 2006

Amicus, Britain’s largest manufacturing union has expressed its anger at the sudden closure of packaging company, Printpac, in Cwmbran.

Amicus members, without any consultation or notice, were told that they were all being made redundant and just told to go home. This news has left 60 workers totally shocked as they are still owed a wages and have no news on whether this is forthcoming.

The failure of the company to properly consult with its workforce, many of whom have worked for the company over 25 years or more, and their trade union has only added to their anxiety.

Amicus Branch Official, Dave Lewis, said:

“This is yet another closure in the industry and is a blow to manufacturing this region. The fact that the company have refused to talk with us will only add to the concerns of the many hard working people.

“We will be seeking to apply for Protective Awards and unfair dismissal with the Employment Tribunal on behalf of our members. We will also be looking into the asset value the company as we will be seeking some form of remedy for our members.”
