Energy & Utilities

I’d like to welcome all visitors to this site including existing members and those who are making up their minds about joining Unite.

I hope the information you require is to be found here and that you stay in touch and help build the site into an informative and useful tool designed to help you in the workplace.

Unite and its predecessor unions have a long and proud tradition of representing members in this sector stretching back well over 100 years.

We have built powerful networks of shop stewards and representatives which have allowed us to withstand the major changes which transformed the industry from its small private sector and local government origins to the global companies which now dominate the scene.

Our technique is simple; we believe in strong, democratic and collective organisation at the workplace which wins for our members and delivers good pay and conditions. And in times of need excellent personal representation when members require it.

Overseeing this technique is a mighty union with the resources to ensure that our members have the backing they deserve.

Energy
Whether you are employed in generation; nuclear, gas, coal or wind. In distribution, network or retail. You could be employed in any of the jobs in utilities; but one thing unites us. We represent all sections of the workforce from call centre to plumber, meter reader to decommissioning.

Our membership is as diverse as it is broad and too large to identify each and every job spec. Suffice to say that if it is in energy or utilities, then Unite represents people doing it.

This spread and diversity of membership is what makes us so successful. Employers know that the individual meter reader or call centre operator have access to and support from fellow workers across the industry. That provides protection and influence, and it is not just the traditional industries where we are present.

The renewable section is employing a growing number of workers.Whether it be wind, wave  hydro or photovoltaic, our aim is to ensure that the “new wave” generators are as organised as the existing and achieve terms and conditions that are at the cutting edge of our negotiations.

If you are a member already, welcome back to the site, and please help us to identify new and potential members.

If you are not a member, then join us now (click on the online membership form) and help to ensure that Unite delivers what members want in the energy or utility workplace.
