How Green is My Workplace?
How Green is My Workplace? explores the environmental
impact of the Electronics and Electrical
Engineering industries and also discusses how the sector is at
the forefront of finding solutions to the problem of climate
change. The document builds on responses to the sector's 2008
survey of members on workplace environmental issues and offers
practical advice on how to organise and bargain around the green
agenda.
Speaking on the launch of the document, Environment Minister
Hilary Benn said:
"Climate change is the greatest environmental challenge facing
the world today. The Government is acting to tackle it, in
particular through the Climate Change Bill.
The commitment of industry to deal with climate change is
growing in the UK. I believe that trade unions and their
members have an important role to play. I very much welcome
the contribution that Unite, Britain's biggest union, is making to
this important debate. Trade Unionists can make a significant
contribution, and real changes are taking place in the
workplace.
But much more significant changes will be needed as part of the
move to a lower carbon economy. I hope that this publication will
make a major impact and raise awareness of the serious issues
surrounding climate change."
