No to derecognition at RGU
Unite to fight de-recognition at Robert
Gordon University Aberdeen
"Unite members in higher education are disappointed to hear of
the attempted de-recognition by Robert Gordon University Aberdeen.
In a letter from the executive director David P Briggs he claims
the university is reviewing its collective bargaining arrangements.
Copies of the letter and Unite's replies are posted below. The
timing of the University decision is strange because the joint
unions on campus UCU, EIS, Unison and Unite had only recently
signed a new Partnership Agreement in August 2010.
“Unite believes the decision has more to do with Unite's
rejection of the University's attempt to cut pay which was also
made in a letter from Mr David P Briggs back in January. These
letters are also posted below. Both UCU and Unite took a strong
line against wage cuts for staff and both have been told they will
now be derecognised. Such outright bullying tactics will be
resisted. In fact Unite will redouble its efforts to explain to
staff how by maintaining a defence for their pay the staff need to
join their appropriate union. Support Unite's stand against union
de-recognition and pay cuts. Join Unite now!”
