Greening the workplace
Climate change and the impact of human activity on the
environment are increasingly recognised as issues to be tackled in
the workplace.
Workplaces are responsible for over half the
UK and Republic of Ireland’s energy usage and carbon emissions. If
we are going to successfully reduce the negative impact that our
society has on the environment we will have to make
significant changes to the way that we work.
Unite understands that unless unions are
actively engaged with the sustainable workplaces agenda it will
have little chance of success. Even worse employers will simply
implement changes without consultation and with potentially
damaging repercussions on working terms and conditions.
This is why Unite is
actively campaigning to improve the
environmental practices of workplaces in the Education
Sector.
