ecUnite's profile, influence and footprint within the rail
sector continues to grow, reflecting the additional resource's that
Unite has dedicated to supporting our members whether they work On
Track,in Cleaning grades , Maintenance depots, Engineering
workshops, Office Administration, Managers, Rail Professional
grades or in the Rolling Stock Manufacturing and Supply Chain
Companies.
Unite is a modern pro-active union to which rail workers are
increasingly turning to, we will not kid members that change can
always be avoided, but our members can rely on professional
representation from dedicated Officers whose remit is to solve
problems not create them.
The RSSB independent review of under reporting of accidents
within Network Rail (NR) delivered a withering account of NR's
safety culture, sating "Managers using incentives to
discourage reporting by front line staff" and " Contract companies
having unwritten policies that discourage reporting".
Unite forced NR into commissioning this review after exposing
managements role in the wide spread under reporting of
accidents.
The National Officer Railways commented, "The RSSB review paints
a devastating picture of a "culture of fear" where "up to 42%
under reporting of RIDDOR lost time injuries. This review explodes
the myth about safety culture in NR where managers at every level
made mistakes". Unite is campaigning for a modern pro-active and
Just safety culture that will provide a safer working environment
for all Rail workers
Unite delivering for Rail Workers.
Unite is also campaigning for dignity and decent working
conditions for contract & agency workers who are used and
abused on either bogus self employed status or Zero hours
contracts, this industry should be able to provide security and a
full weeks work for track workers.
The National Skills Academy for Railway Engineering (NSARE), is
now a reality, Unite not only supported the establishment of the
NSARE we also donated financially to the bid. Soon the NSARE will
be open for business providing a gateway into this rail sector for
young people and raising standards right across the engineering
workforce.
Unite delivering for Rail workers.
