LATEST NEWS --- Construction blacklisting - have you suffered?  Please get in touch ---

Unite's construction membership predominantly works in mechanical and electrical contracting, plumbing and the engineering construction trades. The construction sector has constantly campaigned to improve health and safety in the industry. It has had successful involvement with a range of high-profile projects that include the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, Terminal 5 and Wembley Stadium, has been at the forefront of pressing for an occupational health scheme for the industry and has participated in the successful roving safety reps pilot.

Members are responsible for the building, repair and maintenance of key elements of Britain's infrastructure including energy sources, nuclear, gas and coal fired power stations, petrochemical refineries, chemical plants, pharmaceuticals, steel and other industrial output centres, structural steel for public and commercial building, major water treatment and steel bridge construction.
Our members are involved in all aspects of building and construction including commercial, PFI, NHS and local authority construction projects through to the installation of plumbing, heating and electrical systems in domestic dwellings. Unite also has the largest membership of tower crane and mobile crane drivers in the UK.
In the workplace, we have negotiated the best rates of pay, conditions and national agreements in the country - it pays to be in the union. Our network of shop stewards, safety representatives, officers and members are campaigning to build a better future for the UK construction industry, including:
  • Guaranteed standards of employment reward for wages and conditions
  • National collective agreements
  • Direct employment
  • Holiday pay
  • Protection and recognition of skills
  • The right to decent welfare, PPE and a safe working environment
  • Pensions
  • Occupational healthcare
Join Unite Online todayWithout high levels of trade union membership then it is difficult for us to develop the dialogue with employers to create an environment where our members' aspirations are truly met.
Make sure that everyone in your workplace joins Unite, and together you will have our collective power behind you when you need it. Help us to help you.
Construction is a difficult industry - don't be alone, be part of Unite.
