Housing associations
Unite represents thousands of members working in general and
supported housing. While each housing association creates an agenda
of its own, we also campaign on issues that impact across the
sector.
Unite also campaigns on wider issues related to housing, since
members in other sectors also have an interest in housing, from
local authorities, construction and the finance sector.
As a union Unite takes a wider view since all should have access
to decent housing, and thus we campaign to ensure that policy
determines that all can live in a home they can call their own.
However, if you work in the sector, there are specific issues
that we work on. For instance 'Supporting People' funding has been
a source of job insecurity and additional bureaucracy due to the
way that the fund has been established and developed.
Unite is also working to ensure that every person who works in
the sector has access to training and development through working
with the Sector Skills Council – Asset Skills.
Every year Unite signs new recognition agreements in Housing
Associations and see more people wanting to join Unite.
