Faith organisations

Welcome

If you are a “minister of religion”, if you work for a faith body (in a synagogue/mosque/church/faith group’s head office) or you work for a faith-based charity, Unite is here for you. The faith workers’ branch is here to represent you: we have the expertise to offer you good support.

Workers for faith organisations all too often suffer as a result of the strains of working life, which can easily impact upon the family. Long hours, difficult relationships with people, organisational restructuring and a host of other issues are as real for faith workers as anyone in the working world. This goes for ministers and lay workers alike. New approaches to managing people and theories of ‘human resource management’ can have dramatic consequences. Organisations are re-structured and new lines of accountability introduced. Without advice and good representation, one can be in trouble.

As a branch we campaign on issues selected by our members.  The executive committee supports campaigns and enables the voice of faithworkers to shape the agenda of the wider trade union movement.  A range of backgrounds, including Baptist Union of Great Britain, Church of England, Scottish Episcopal Church, Methodist Church and Non-Subscribing Presbyterians are represented by the current members of the executive as they seek to serve all members of the branch.

Unite faith workers - conference and AGM 2011

A growing and successful conference was held. Members considered a regionalisation, bullying, the cuts agenda and many other issues. Members were central to all discussions and we able to feed into the central campaigns of the branch.
