Oxfordshire County Council youth workers petition
Background
Oxfordshire County Council has
carried out a consultation regarding how it delivers it's frontline
youth services. This has resulted in the council imposing a new
structure with effect on the 3 November 2009 which Community and
Youth Workers in Oxford believes undermines the delivery of an
effective youth service in Oxford. Unite members are also concerned
about the way that the consultation was carried out, and feel that
the review did not sufficiently involve the young people that the
service is aimed at.
The community and Youth Workers branch of Unite in Oxfordshire
are campaigning to have Oxfordshire County Council think again and
carry out a review of the service which involves meaningful
consultation with all parties involved in the service. They also
want the council to commit to reinvesting in the service, and
ensure that suitably qualified workers are employed to deliver an
effective youth service for the young people of Oxfordshire.
We hope that you will sign our petition.

Cuts to Youth Services in Oxfordshire
''We, the undersigned are appalled at the cuts to the youth
mentoring service and Face 2 Face counselling service by
Oxfordshire County Council. These cuts will have a detrimental
impact on the young people of Oxfordshire.
We call on Oxfordshire County Council to reinvest in frontline
services in order to ensure that an effective and safe service for
the young people of Oxfordshire is restored, delivered by qualified
youth workers in a safe environment.
In order for the council to achieve this aim we request that
they:
- Instigate an immediate review of the integrated youth service
provision with meaningful consultation and involvement from staff,
related organisations and most important the young people of
Oxfordshire.
- The council will commit that it ensures that properly qualified
youth workers are employed to deliver an effective and safe
service.
- That services to young people will be easily accessible.
