Policy Conference
Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley both made stirring speeches that
resonated well with Lifelong Learning. This was especially true of
the way that ULRs campaign for increased access to skills training
and skills updating; and by the way they raise the profile of the
union and are involved in organising and recruiting in the
workplace.
3 motions were put to Conference around Lifelong Learning
issues.
A lot of positive interest was shown at the LLL stand by
delegates; union officers and NEC members. The opportunity was also
taken to renew friendships among the many ULRs who were at
conference as elected delegates.
Wireless computers were used to give those attending
Conference the chance to try out a couple of Skills for Life tests.
These were fun short 10 minute on-line tests in either literacy or
numeracy from the ‘Move On’ pages. Lots of people including
delegates, officers and members of the NEC took the opportunity to
try out the tests. People were frequently surprised by the level of
skill required.
