South East and Eastern regions ULR network day
Last December saw the first Unite joint Eastern and
South Eastern regions Union Learning Rep (ULR) Network Day. Held in
London, the event was attended by over 40 ULRs. The aim of this
event was to give ULRs the opportunity to meet and network with
colleagues from across the regions, exchange best practice and to
develop their skills as ULRs.
Case studies, of learning projects were given by the ULRs in
Portals De La Rue, Delphi Diesel, and Princess Alexandra NHS Trust.
The Unite-Amicus Regional Learning Organisers (RLOs) would like to
take this opportunity of thanking the ULRs who put presentations
together. The other ULRs at the event found these presentations of
real value, and took away a lot of ideas about how to develop their
own projects. It takes a lot of courage to face 60 people and give
a presentation, so well done to all those who contributed.
Other issues covered on the day included-
Ways of promoting the role of the ULR to members and to
management.
How to engage learners
Workplace training – What is the ULR role?
Skills for Life
Dyslexia
A presentation was given by Havering College who covered how to
recognise the signs of dyslexia; what ULRs could do to offer help;
and what the responsibilities of employers are to people who have
dyslexia in the workplace. The talk was very popular and raised a
lot of issues and questions from the ULRs.
Although there was a lot of information covered in the day, the
feedback from the ULRs was that they found the day interesting,
helpful and informative. Again thanks to all those who attended and
we’re looking forward to the next one.
