LLL in WalesWalk on Snowdon

The Unite Lifelong Learning department is closely involved in all the Unite Regions. With Wales having its own Assembly, culture, laws and language, Union Learning Reps (ULRs) and members have the support of a Unite Lifelong Learning team dedicated to improving the skills and knowledge of our members.

ULRs are absolutely central to the Unite campaign for Lifelong Learning. Indeed their activities have been described as a 'quiet revolution' at work. With new legislation giving ULRs statutory backing, including paid time off for training and carrying out their duties, that quiet revolution is moving on apace. Unite is determined to build on this success by ensuring that ULRs have access to proper training and support. And we will continue our efforts to work with employers, government and other key partners to ensure that our members have access to quality education & training."

In Wales, UNITE the Union has recently launched a campaign funded by the Wales Union Learning Fund (WULF), called ‘Step Up To Learning 3 (SUTL 3), its purpose is to encourage and support workers in Unite workplaces to take up training; to improve their skills in the workplace, community and personal lives.

SUTL 3 is a 3 year project (2010-2013) and works in partnership with its sister campaign ‘Stepping Up’ which has been running since April 2009.  WULF was established by the Welsh Assembly Government to promote workplace learning and supports learning activities in the workplace. WULF shows commitment to partnership working between union learning representatives, learners, employer and the course provider.
