World of Work
Exhibition
Full steam ahead! For Swindon’s unions’ free family art
event.
This November Learning Reps and union members
from across Swindon are getting all arty and holding a free day out
in the town’s world famous Steam Museum to show the public what
they get up to in their spare time.
The World of Work event on the 12th November
is an opportunity to experience a wide variety of art, poetry,
songs and more from workers across Swindon and Wiltshire. There
will also be stalls from local colleges, trade unions and history
groups, as well as workshops and activities for adults and kids
alike.

The event is the idea of two Learning Reps
from Swindon’s Royal Mail depot and is being supported by
Unionlearn, the Skills and Learning Arm of the TUC, as well as many
of the areas local trade unions, including Unite the Union.
Unite the Union Regional Learning Organiser
Brett Sparkes said “The talented workers of Swindon continue to
amaze me with their skills and dedication, this exhibition gives
these people the opportunity to showcase those talents. Unite
members from across the area have taken the time and made the
effort to explain how they see the world we all work in.”
Elaine Dobson, from unionlearn who is
supporting local workers, added: “This project has been put on by
the hard work of union members around Swindon and shows that trade
unions are about more than pay and conditions. They are about
inspiring working people to learn new skills that benefit
themselves, their workplaces and the local communities.”
World of Work will be held at STEAM on 12th
Nov. from 10.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m, and includes free entry to the
museum as well as the exhibition.
