Alan Foy - Unite learner at Sainsbury’s - wins Learner
of the Year Award
Alan Foy is an LGV driver
and Unite member at Sainsbury’s Haydock centre. He was delighted to
receive a Learner of the Year award from Wigan & Leigh College.
They have been providing Essential Skills courses in the Learner
Centre on site to the benefit of both members and the company.
A celebration event was held at Wigan &
Leigh College on Wednesday December 9th this year. He won his
award in The Skills for Life category. He received it in front of
his colleagues, fellow learners and workmates. Jess Hughes Head of
Skills for Life at Wigan & Leigh College warmly congratulated
Alan on his award.
The award
reflects the hard work both he and his fellow members have put in
while attending Literacy and Numeracy courses in the workplace.
Unite ULRs Matty Heaton and Mick Southern support the centre
and were instrumental in setting up the learning centre at his
workplace. They too were there to see Alan pick up his certificate
and cup.
It shows that the hard work carried out by the
two Unite ULRs Matty and Mick is showing real dividends and shows
how Lifelong Learning can have a huge benefit for people.
