EDBRO Receives Nomination for Red Rose
Business Award
Edbro’s Union Learning programme and the
company’s support for the development of skill levels within the
workforce have earned a nomination in these prestigious local
awards. For the last few years, Edbro employee and Unite the Union
rep Steve Turner has driven the Union Learning programme forward,
gaining funding and support from Unite the Union, local
institutions and buy-in not only from the Edbro management team,
keen to strengthen the skills of their workforce, but also from the
employees eager to improve on their own skill base. Offering
courses in foreign languages; basic & advanced IT programmes
and even digital photography, the Union Learning programme also
offers job related training with courses in Business Techniques,
Warehousing & Health & Safety.
Steve Turner, Union Learning Coordinator
comments on the success of the programme, “Confidence to try out
courses has grown and workforce moral is increasing significantly.
Employees see our learning agenda as a positive part of company
employment.”
The Red Rose Awards were held in Blackpool in
late March and saw Edbro up against stiff competition, with six
other Lancashire Businesses in the Commitment to Skill category.
Unfortunately, this time it was not to be and the Edbro
representatives came away empty handed, pipped to the post by a
worthy winner.
Katherine Littlewood, Sales & Marketing
Manager for Edbro commented on the results, “Of course it was a
disappointment not to come away with the prize. But it was a great
night and to be among such successful businesses, and be listed
among the top businesses in the region is a great achievement for
our learning programme. And there’s always next year!”
