LAW day 2011 at  E-ON; Parklands, Bolton

Just seven weeks after completing their learning rep course, Glynis Dover, Alison Ashcroft, and Caroline Pollard were keen to start supporting their colleagues back at their workplace, and started to look at getting involved in Adult Learners week. Caroline Pollard, Alison Ashcroft and Glynis Dover

Trade union Unison, already having learning reps had established much learning activity that Unite reps where keen to embrace , and build upon to develop a whole workplace approach. To this end, reps from both unions met and agreed to start thinking about this joint approach, and kicked off by organising stalls for the learning at workday event.

Unite reps invited ULRs established at other sites to support the day, and representatives from both Wigan & Leigh College, and Bolton College to promote adult learning opportunities.

The stalls were set up in the canteen, so were seen by a lot of passing trade, all interested to see what was going on.  The reps had everyone they spoke to complete a brief learning questionnaire, and will be looking at the information to see what the general feel for learning and training will be. Unite learning reps are keen to start  offering support to members and potential members, and as a result have already seen 5 employees looking to sign up to join Unite. There was also much interest in team leader and management courses on the day,  so a really positive outcome for the new reps to take forward.
