Oldham MBC Learning Day - October 2010
The joint unions in Oldham MBC put together a
number of activities during the week. This included a very
successful sponsored walk in aid of Children with physical and
visual impairments among other initiatives.
The main event was held on Wednesday October
27th with the facilities provided by Oldham Library. It included
two rooms being utilised with the computer room being used for the
Online Basics while the Performance room had numerous stalls in it
along with a Wii console set up which kept young and old
entertained during the day.
The online basics was a success with 30 people
registering with UK Online using the library ID number as the
centre at Moorhey Street had already proved to be successful with
60 people registering through our centre we felt it only proper
that the library collected the names. The genealogy in the
afternoon attracted 12 people and was left online for people to
access after the event had finished.
There were a number of other activities during
the day, these including Aromatherapy and Massage sessions for the
adults while the younger ones were entertained with puppets in the
Children’s Library.
Back on the educational front, there was a
Bookstart initiative for the under fives and the 6 Book Challenge
and book swaps for the adults.
Other authorities who attended the event
included Oldham Crime Prevention Unit, Oldham Fire and Rescue, St
Johns Ambulance, Oldham Lifelong Learning, Oldham College, Oldham
Recycling Team and Oldham Library Services.
Everyone enjoyed the events throughout the
week and great thanks are due to Steve
Hewitt Lead ULR from Unite along with the many other ULRs from
Unite, GMB and Unison for all the hard work that went into it.
