ULRs Discover Keen Photographers and Readers in
Colindale!
Unite ULRs at the National Blood Service in
Colindale; north London delivered a busy and successful event on 21
October 2009 as part of the Unionlearn funded ‘Festival of
Learning’. ULRs John Wells and Barry Tomkins arranged a schedule of
activities throughout the day including taster sessions in First
Aid and Digital photography provided by Barnet College. In
addition, Devon Gordon from the Unite Lifelong Learning team was on
hand to deliver IT tasters and Skills for Life initial
assessments.
During the morning, John supported by Brian
Davis, the Unite Regional Learning Organizer ran a table promoting
the benefits of union led learning opportunities. They also
dispensed an entire stock of Quick-Read books.
A general knowledge quiz was delivered by John
with 3 prizes of Unite merchandise for the winners. The table also
attracted a number of potential new members who were provided with
application forms.
The general level of interest was very
encouraging and several staff from the nearby Health Protection
Agency site attended the taster sessions, joining in with staff and
Unite members from the NBS. Unite application forms were on
hand.
The ULRs are now finalizing arrangements with
Barnet College to run a 12 hour introductory course on site in
Digital Photography as a result of the level in interest shown at
the taster session.
