Northern Rail - Leeds
At Neville Hall maintenance depot in Leeds,
Terry Blake the Unite ULR arranged a special learning day.
Terry is a fitter with Northern Rail &
started his apprenticeship back in 1992. He & his partner enjoy
gigging & recently saw ‘Defect’ at Leeds Uni. With an interest
in reading & learning, Terry became a Unite ULR for his
workmates.
As part of this role he recently set up
numeracy, literacy & IT taster & information session in
work. He organised some food & drink to let people grab a bite
around lunch-time while they tried things out.
Over 50 people came along – many asking about
IT & computer courses. It all went really well & Terry
looks forward to setting up follow on courses at Neville Hall in
Leeds. It really shows how ULRs like Terry can get the skills ball
rolling.
