And The Award Goes To .......

David BloorCongratulations to Learning Reps at Bombardier, Crewe on behalf of Unite the Union, on achieving a well deserved award for developing their Learning Centre. Photographed here is David Bloor receiving the Lifelong Learning award from Crewe and Nantwich Local Strategic Partnership.

The award was given to David for recognition of the hard work around lifelong learning during the last 18 months. He accepted the award on behalf of all the Unite Learning Reps whom he co-ordinates making a success of the centre.

Bombardier repsSince the centre opened 18 months ago, David and the team have welcomed over 130 students into the learning centre. Courses have included skills for life and computer courses, and there are many more including Spanish and ITQ planned for the New Year. There is a real collaboration of providers at the centre who the reps negotiate with on behalf of fellow employees. These include Mid Cheshire College who will be running the ITQ, Warrington College who have funded computer courses, and Stoke College who will be funding courses for the New Year also.

Learners who use the centre have all given positive feedback about their learning experience.

Learning is made easy in informal surroundings” D.Barker.

“I enjoyed using the learning centre; it has a warm, friendly atmosphere that is easy to learn in”  S.Mayer.

Both of these comments clearly indicate that everyone involved in running the centre have created just the right environment for adult workplace learning.

Now the learning Reps are working with Unite Learning Organiser Helen Bradbury, they have the opportunity to receive coaching and mentoring for them to develop their role further, and build upon their existing skills.

With new management on board this is the perfect time to take a strategic look at the centre, to build upon the fantastic foundations the learning reps have built, primarily on their own, and work in partnership with the union, providers, management, and other government agencies to create a vision for the future of the centre.
