Distance Learning Degree for Activists Interested in LLL.

Unite has worked closely with Leicester University to produce the Industrial Relations and LLL degree course. This course, which builds on practical experience to develop a higher level of understanding around the theory and politics of learning.

 

The degree is a distance learning course. Students can take the course as far as they wish - right up to degree level. This is an exciting opportunity for activists to study at Higher Education level, developing analytical, research and writing skills.

Below are the answers to some FAQ's

Q          What is it?

A.         The Certificate is a recognized Higher Education Qualification administered by Leicester University.  It forms part of an undergraduate programme that offers progression to full degree (BA).

 

Q          Who is it for?

A          Union Learning Representatives / Workplace Representatives / Activists who want to increase their understanding of workplace learning and skills issues within an industrial relations context.

 

Q.         Is this the right course for me?

A.         There are no formal entry requirements.  The course is open to all Unite activists who have completed workplace reps or ULR courses, or who can demonstrate experience of workplace industrial relations. There will be an assessmrent process to ensure that candidates can cope with the course content.

 

Q          How long will it take?

A.         The certificate course is designed to be flexible and will be delivered by distance learning.

The course can be undertaken at the learner’s own pace.  We would anticipate that most learners would comfortably complete the certificate within a year.

 

Q.                 How is the course delivered?

A.         There will be an optional classroom-based induction, but this is primarily a distance learning course so when and where you study is largely up to you.  You will receive written course materials to read for each of the six modules (around 3000 words each) and will submit a piece of written work to your tutor by post or email for each module.

 

Q.         What support will I get? 

A.         Your tutor will be available by arrangement to discuss any aspects of the course and give you feedback on your work.  You will have access to online tutor support and discussion forums where you can communicate with other learners

 

Q.         How much does it cost?

A.         This course would normally cost £1080 per year.
