Defend Jerry Hicks
Campaign
Defend Jerry Hicks Campaign
From John Boardman Chair Amicus, North West
Regional Council
A Rally is to be held in Bristol on Friday 2
September. The campaign for Jerry's reinstatement has the support
of The General Secretary and the Amicus Aerospace &
Shipbuilding Committee.
Amicus supports Jerry's claim that he has
been sacked because of trade union activities. Members at the Rolls
Royce Bristol Test facility have voted to take industrial action
and a ballot of all the Rolls Royce Bristol facility is
underway.
There is no doubt that Jerry has been treated
unfairly by the company and his reinstatement is in everyone's
interest.
Recent Developments at Gateway Gourmet and
Walmart/Asda, Wigan shows that trade union representation continues
to be under attack despite relatively high levels of employment. A
strong presence at the rally in support of Jerry is essential if we
are to halt the current round of attacks on employment
rights.
I strongly urge you to join us at the rally
in Bristol. Transport from the North West is being arranged by Neil
Sheehan (Regional Council Delegate for Aerospace &
Shipbuilding). It is anticipated that the Regional Council will
cover the costs (the Regional Council meets on 31 August). Neil can
be contacted by telephone on 07801 716 265.

Crewe Works Open Weekend -10th &
11th September
The trade union at Bombardier, Crewe jointly
administers a Charity Fund that makes regular donations to local
hospitals, charities and good causes.
"The Webb Crewe Works Charity Fund" is a
registered charity run by a Trustee Board. This trustee board
comprises 'two management' and 'two trade union' members.
The Charity Fund derives much of its income
by holding industry famous "Open Day" events every three years or
so. These extremely popular and well-supported events see the
factory opened up to the railway enthusiast and public with the
attraction being a gathering of past and present motive
power.
The next event is being held on 10th &
11th September 2005 where there will be some 15 live steam engines,
including 'The Flying Scotsman'. There will also be examples of
preserved and modern diesel and electric locomotives.
Much of the motive power assembled over the
weekend will have been Crewe built.
Amicus Officials and Representatives will be
having a stand at the event to promote Amicus and the role and work
of the union in the modern workplace. For further details please
