Amicus thrilled with turnout at H&S
event
Over 170 delegates from across all sectors
attended the Health & Safety event in Manchester last
month.
Ken Woodward, former Coca Cola employee
blinded in an industrial accident gave a well
received talk on H&S issues in the workplace, in particular the
need to never stop campaigning. This was followed by a lively
question and answer presentation entitled “Think what if? Not if
only” emphasis on if only he had followed the present H&S
precautions and also the companies failure to follow its own
procedures in place at the time.
This was followed by an outstanding visual
presentation “What makes a difference – trade union organisation”
from Rory O'Neill, Editor, Hazards Magazine.
Other issues covered throughout the day
included the Tebay judgement, Amicus' continuous campaigns for
Corporate Manslaughter and Workers Memorial Day 28th April 2006 (62
deaths in NW region last year including 22 cockle pickers at
Morecambe).
Comments from delegates:
“Good course hope they can carry on
and run more often. It helps to know we are not
alone.”
“Overall had a very useful conference
and also enjoyed it.”
“Good course, good content, excellent
video and presentation by Ken Woodward.”
TUC Hazards at Work publications were
distributed to all delegates.

the offshore industry that will deliver learning opportunities for
our members today and in the future.
