SAVE OUR NHS – SAVE THE DATE

Mass lobby of parliament and rally in Westminster

Our NHS is our greatest national achievement.  Only it ensures that access to health care is based on need, not wealth.  It has cared for generations of working people, improving their health and their life chances. And it places fairness at the heart of our society.

But this is all in desperate danger.

The coalition’s Health and Social Care Bill will destroy the NHS.  It will place it in the hands of business and put profit before patient care.  Those who can pay will go to the top of the queue. The poor will get what is left.  And at a time of severe austerity, it saddles the NHS with a reorganisation bill of £4 billion.

We must kill this bill.

It is currently making its way through the House of Lords, expected to return to the Commons after Easter for final consideration.  That means in a matter of weeks this will be law.

This is a emergency, recognised by our Executive who has charged the union to mobilise to stop this bill.

Unite is working with union partners to organise a day of protest at Parliament on Wednesday, 7 March from 2pm and ending at 7.30pm.  Plans for the day are still being finalised but I am asking you to ensure that your region identifies coordinators and organises transport to bring members to the capital for this day.

Materials publicising the event are in production and will arrive early in the coming week.  Please ensure that these are distributed far and wide, across Unite’s public and private sector membership.

I know you understand that this is an emergency.  We must not let this government destroy our NHS - and we will not stand by while they take it from us.

For any information on transport etc please click here and e-mail us all your details.
