Strategy for Growth
Unite is
the largest trade Union in Britain and Ireland, and like any other
is facing some of the biggest challenges we have ever had to face
within the trade union movement under this coalition
government. Alongside this we recognise that the
decline in Unite membership cannot continue hence the Strategy for
Growth – led by the National Organising Department.
Organising the unorganised through strategic campaigning is the
focus with key objectives and principles:
• Organising by Sector
• Rebuilding the shop steward/workplace rep movement by site,
company, sector, and globally
• Winning for workers
• Building sector combines, bringing together activists from
across the sector
• Build sector agreements
Organising is not simply recruitment, it is about building
sustainable workplace organisation, working with activists
developing them to win and grow within their workplace.
To encourage them to take an interest outside of their workplaces
and build a trade union movement that will benefit all workers in
all sectors of the economy to help create a society that we can all
be proud of.
