LGBT Ireland

Unite not only recognises the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, it fights to ensure them. Unite recognises that LGBT rights are workers' rights and human rights. The fight for equality is ongoing and we can't become too complacent - that is why we need you. If you have any issues you would like addressed, come and join the LGBT committee in Ireland - you can email the equalities officer, Taryn Trainor.

LGBT Picket - Belfast

On the 3rd August 2011, a picket was organised outside the West Belfast Talks Back event in St. Louise's College on the Falls Road. The picket was to protest against Jim Wells MLA, who was attending, following the most recent of his continuing stream of homophobic comments.

Unite Regional LBGT Chair, Harry McAnulty, along with other Unite members, joined the picket.

Gay Pride 2011

The Belfast Pride Parade, which took place on Saturday, 30th July, is the largest cross community carnival parade in Belfast and definitely one of the most talked about.  Unite provided a stall in the community, family and retail area at the Lagan Lookout.  Unite staff and LGBT committee members were in attendance to carry out surveys and give out badges. See the results of a survey carried out at the 2011 Belfast Gay Pride festival on key issues facing the LGBT community
