Workers devastated by Bosch's announcement to close its Cardiff
plant
15th January 2010
Unite, the UK’s largest union, has today (Friday, 15th January)
said workers are devastated over the motor parts manufacturer
Bosch’s decision to close its south Wales plant with up to 900 jobs
losses.
Unite represents much of the workforce at the Cardiff site and
has spent the last three months in comprehensive negotiations with
Bosch in a bid to save the plant only to learn it has been
recommended for closure and that its work will be transferring work
to Hungary in 2011.
Unite regional officer, David Lewis, said: "The workers are
absolutely devastated that the closure of Bosch's Cardiff site has
been recommended to the board.
"Since October last year, Unite has been seeking alternatives to
the closure of the site, but the company has not supported our
proposals. This is a terrible blow to 900 workers and their
families. We will now vigorously campaign for the best possible
deal for the workforce.”
Unite will hold a mass meeting tomorrow (Saturday, 16th January)
at the plant in Cardiff, where the union will set out how it
intends to support its members.
