Unite reaction to National Australia Group announcement of 270 job
cuts
16 November 2011
David Fleming, Unite national officer, said: “The National
Australia Group’s (NAG) decision today to cut 270 staff from the
Integrated Financial Services Department is a blow to the
workforce. This comes on the day when it is revealed that
unemployment is at a 17 year high, at 2.62 million.
“The staff in this area service the NAG business portfolios, and
they have been told that this restructuring is related to the fact
that business lending has reduced dramatically over the last few
years. Unite will argue that staff must be given the option of
redeployment and retraining. Unite will also vigorously oppose any
compulsory redundancies.”
NAG owns Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank.
