Unite reaction to further job cuts at Lloyds
21 July 2011
Unite members working for the Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) are
feeling betrayed by another announcement of a further 76 job cuts
announced today (Thursday).
David Fleming, Unite national officer, said: “Unite is deeply
disappointed at the Lloyds Banking Group’s decision to make further
job cuts. Our members feel utterly betrayed by this announcement.
Many are in a permanent state of limbo and don’t know if or when
their job will be cut and these drip-drip announcements are causing
staff a great deal of undue stress.
“Since the formation of Lloyds Banking Group in 2009 there have
been over 27,000 job losses announced, sadly, a further 76 will be
added to that figure today. This news will come as a heavy blow to
our members. We will oppose any compulsory redundancies and will
seek redeployment opportunities for all those who are
impacted.”
Today’s announcement will affect staff over a number of areas
within the bank. The heaviest impact will fall within its human
resources department. The remainder of staff will go from the
Edinburgh Trust Centre, Group Security and Fraud, and Aircraft and
Ship Finance affecting London, Scotland, North East Yorkshire and
the Humber.
