Unite offers advice “surgeries” for Sefton council workers over
cuts
22 November 2011
When: Friday, 2 December from 11.00 am - 1.00 pm
Where: Dunes Splash World, The Esplanade,
Southport PR8 1RX
As public sector workers across Merseyside continue to face huge
job losses and further attacks on their pay, conditions and
pensions, Unite, the UK’s biggest union, is organising a number of
advice “surgeries” to support its members at Sefton council.
With Unite committed to the broadest and strongest coalition to
stop government cuts to public services – Sefton council workers
will be given the opportunity to meet Unite officials to raise
their concerns – whether it’s about cuts, job losses, pay, or the
government’s attack on their pensions.
The first surgery will take place on Friday, 2 December from
11.00 am – 1.00 pm at Dunes Splash World, The Esplanade, Southport
PR8 1RX.
Speaking ahead of the surgery, Unite regional officer, Debbie
Brannan said: “For public sector workers up and down the country,
this is an especially worrying time.
“Sefton council have been hit the hardest by government cuts –
plans to cut 1,000 jobs, closing at least four libraries, reducing
opening hours at leisure centres and axing area-based grants for
schools – so we have to support them. It’s critical that the
views of our members are recognised and heard.
“We see the advice surgery as an important step forward to help
members have a stronger voice on issues that confront them on a
daily basis. We urge Unite members and anyone who wants to join
Unite at Sefton council to come along on Friday, 2 December
because together we can fight the cuts.”
