Unite condemns EDL’s message of hate
3 February 2012
Unite, the UK’s largest union, strongly condemns the message of
hate coming from the EDL, which is due to march through Leicester
city tomorrow (Saturday 4 February).
Unite, which has 1.5 million members from all races and
religions, is committed to fairness, justice and equality in
workplaces and communities in the East Midlands and across the
UK.
Unite regional officer, Paresh Patel, said: “The EDL’s message
is one of hate which has no place in our society and is totally
opposed to trade union values. As a union, we are committed to
promoting equality, diversity and advancing the interests of our
members irrespective of their age, gender, sexual orientation,
ethnicity, creed or disability.
“We want to celebrate the cultural diversity of the city. We are
proud of the fact that Leicester city is a multi-faith and
multi-cultural city where people of all faiths live and work with
each other.”
