Unite comment on E.ON decision to cut 11,000 staff across Europe
11 August 2011
Unite, the largest union in the country, has today (Thursday)
called for urgent meetings with senior E.ON management, to demand
that UK workers do not pay the price for decisions made in
Germany.
Unite national officer, Kevin Coyne, said: “Unite is calling for
an urgent meeting with E.ON’s UK chief executive. It is still
unclear where these cuts will fall and the union will do our utmost
to protect the livelihood of our members.
“UK jobs should not be lost subject to the decision of the
German government and UK livelihoods should not be jeopardised
through German taxes.
“Why is it that UK energy and jobs are dependent on foreign tax
and investment decisions, over which we have no control?
“It is time the UK government began to facilitate the UK taking
control of its energy supplies. Britain's energy supplies are far
too important.”
